How to Effectively Transition Your Workforce to Work From Home

A hot subject has always been and will always be work from home. This subject is taking off even more than normal with the recent pandemic of COVID-19. Companies who have versatility and function in place from home alternatives are ahead of the curve. Companies that do not have work from home policies in place, however, are trying to find a way to handle their workers efficiently. In addition to managing a remote workforce efficiently, with an entirely remote interview, recruiting and onboarding process, you might need to consider how to recruit sales professionals. Regardless of the Coronavirus, a main point of debate will still be work from home policies. As you develop your work from the home sales team, here are a few items to remember.

Why is Work From Home Beneficial?

For both you and your colleagues, working from home can be mutually beneficial. For an employee, the reasons are clear, but how can this be advantageous to the organization when you handle a team of high-output sales professionals?

Extensive research on this topic has been conducted. One of them was Nicholas Bloom, a Stanford University economics professor who teamed up with Ctrip to test some telecommuting concepts. Approximately 250 workers volunteered for the experiment over the next nine months; half were randomly selected to work at home and half in the workplace. Employers found at the end of the trial that the remote staff worked 9.5 percent longer than office workers and were 13 percent more profitable. When quitting rates were decreased by 50 percent, they were also judged to be happier.

Furthermore, last year, employees who spend little or all of their time out of the workplace reported feeling similarly interested. Those who spent 60% to 80% of their time away from the workplace had the highest engagement rates. The result was that “despite the extra time away from managers and co-workers, they are the most likely of all employees to strongly agree that someone at work cares about them as an individual, encourages their growth, and has talked about their progress with them,” Gallup said. Those who work remotely three or four days a week were also the most likely to report thinking that they had a best friend at work and had professional development opportunities.

What this study reveals is the stigma and old views that a home worker’s job is lazy or unproductive are simply not valid. In fact, these staff had a higher retention rate than those who go into an office on a regular basis. The advantages are just as easy for you; happier and more efficient workers who stay with you longer.

Tracking Productivity

To ensure that your workers work as hard as they say, there are many resources. In order to view who is logging in and how long, several CRMs have dashboards and login monitoring tools. Depending on the business, there are also several different metrics that you can use as gauges of how efficient your workers are on a regular or weekly basis.

Best Practices

For years, some of the biggest and most profitable enterprises have been in a remote environment. Some best practices are listed here:

  1. Normal one-on-one meetings: Hold regular meetings as if you were in the workplace and handle them. Be official, have an agenda and do not reprogram these
  2. Collaboration in real time: Use multiple applications that involve the workers in real time. “Better than just “talk”, G-Chat or Slack offers
  3. Virtually “drop-in”: Make sure that the staff does its job. To see what they are working on, drop in unexpectedly by video call or phone call.
  4. Mandate a camera: Some people enjoy working from home because they don’t have to see other people, but this also means that they can hide if they have a webcam for virtual meetings.

Tools to Operate Effectively

There are many services out there and there are a lot of alternatives to go through. You need to set up a home budget job, prioritize what is important to you and your team, what resources are a must, what is a good thing to have and what you can do without. As you go through all the choices, from home policy, you can start developing your work:

  1. Slack/G-Chat/Skype or another chat application
  2. Calling solution: CloudCall, Google Calling, etc.
  3. VPN (Virtual Private Network)
  4. Webcams
  5. CRM that provides good tracking dashboards, reports and tools
  6. Headset
